About Us
OUR STORY
In 1996, a retired dentist from Fort Myers, Florida, Dr. William H. Truax II, founded Project Dentists Care of Southwest Florida (PDC).

This charity dental clinic was established to provide free dental services to underserved residents of Lee, Hendry, and Glades Counties in Florida. The clinic specifically targets individuals whose income falls below 200% of the Federal poverty level and who lack dental insurance.

From its modest beginnings in a small rental space on Cleveland Ave, PDC has grown significantly. Today, it operates out of a modern dental facility located at 2041 McGregor Blvd. in downtown Fort Myers.
The clinic boasts five up-to-date operatories, full digital radiology and electronic dental records systems, sterilization facilities, and a comfortable waiting room. All these services are provided completely free of charge. The clinic offers a range of dental services, including hygiene, fillings, partial and full dentures, and minor oral surgery.

Dr. Truax has recruited a cadre of over 40 dentists, hygienists, and other professionals who volunteer their time and professional talents to serve PDC patients. Dr. Truax and his team of volunteers are now able to alleviate the pain, discomfort, and potential serious health risks associated with dental disease for residents who simply are unable to afford routine or even emergency dental services.
PDC can restore dental health and associated self-confidence, and in many cases, employability
In 2024, PDC provided over 1200 patient visits and delivered services valued at $960,000.
Project Dentists Care is designated by the Internal Revenue Service as a 503(3) charitable organization.

In 2024, The Project Dentists Care Foundation was established to solicit, collect and invest money to support, exclusively, PDC. The Project Dentists Care Foundation is a separate corporation, governed by a Board of Trustees, and is designated by the Internal Revenue Service as a 503(c) charitable organization.
